This is the weblog of P.B. (Bärry) Hartog.
My weblog concentrates on the reading and interpreting of Scripture in its various forms. I am interested in the act of interpreting and the way Scripture (Jewish, Christian, and Islamic) is made relevant in everyday life. Therefore, my posts mostly deal with the way scriptural exegesis is undertaken, both in Antiquity and more recent times. Most of my posts are in English, though some may be composed in Dutch – these latter mainly deal with specifically Dutch peculiarities.
As far as my personal experience with the subject goes: I hold an MA (Research) in Religious Studies and an MA in Hebrew and Aramaic Languages and Cultures, both from Leiden University. From October, 2011 onward, I am working on a Ph.D. project at the Catholic University of Leuven, entitled: ‘Pesher ha-Davar: Commentary Texts in Qumran and the Greek and Hellenistic-Jewish Traditions,’ under the supervision of Prof. E.J.C. Tigchelaar.
